Antique (1882-1915) GEBRUDER HEUBACH Statue/Figurine: Sitting Shou Xing, Chinese God of Longevity

Antique porcelain figurine/statue/statuette/figure handcrafted/hand painted in Germany by Gebruder Heubach between 1882-1915 (according to the style of mark incised on bottom. Figurine features Chinese deity, Shòu Xing (a.k.a. Shouxing, Shou, or Sau), the star god of longevity. Shou and his two counterparts, Fu & Lu, make up The Sanxing, the gods of the three stars or constellations. The Sanxing embody the highest priorities of Chinese life: Fortune (Fu), Prosperity (Lu), & Longevity (Shou). Shou, most popular of the 3, is often represented independently (as is the case with this piece).
Shou is depicted traditionally, with hallmark forehead (prominent & elongated to symbolize knowledge & great wisdom), robe of yellow (symbolizing power & prosperity) with pattern made up of the Chinese symbol for “Wealth & Prosperity” in blue (symbolizing immortality & advancement).
As the god of longevity, the Chinese believe Shou reigns over the lifespan of mortals. A prominent figure in the practice of feng shui, the proper placement of a figural representation such as this one will actively attract health, unity, harmony, and quality & quantity of life to that household, workplace, or wherever Shou is [properly](1) displayed.
(1) Feng Shui mandates proper placement in accordance with the flow of energy. Proper placement: when independent of Fu & Lu, Shou should be displayed high off the ground, in a prominent, centralized spot—considerations should be taken in relation to position, location, direction, traffic, energy/energy flow.
