Das monumentale Werk über die Geschichte der Orchideenliteratur erschien in Belgien als monatliche Fortsetzung in französischer Sprache zwischen 1885 und 1906, auf englisch 1891 bis 1898. Für Afficionados der Orchidee war dieses Periodikum ein Gegenstand leidenschaftlichen Sammlertums.

Jean Jules Linden (1817-1898) war ein luxemburgisch-belgischer Botaniker. Er gilt als einer der ‘Väter‘ der Orchideenforschung. Linden begann - nach zehnjährigen Expeditionsreisen in die Länder Mittel- und Südamerikas - Orchideen zu kultivieren und zu züchten. Seine so angelegte Sammlung von Orchideen wurde weltberühmt; seine Forschung führte zu diesem Hauptwerk, das hier nun als prächtiger Nachdruck vorliegt.

Die 5-bändige faksimilierte Ausgabe (leinengebunden mit Schmuckumschlag) präsentiert das vollständige botanische Wissen dieser Epoche über die exotische Pflanze und stellt eine wahrhaftige Enzyklopädie der Orchidee dar: Die Pflanzenzeichnungen sind von ausgesprochener Qualität in künstlerischer Umsetzung und Reproduktion. Jede der Tafeln begleitet eine botanische Beschreibung, ein Abriss über die Entdeckungs- und Züchtungsgeschichte sowie ein bibliografischer Apparat, außerdem gibt es praktische Hinweise für den Züchter.
